Ramps being built for people with MS

The Kentucky-Southeast Indiana Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has teamed up with MAC Construction and Gould’s Discount Medical to build ramps for people living with multiple sclerosis in the area.

The Kentucky Southeast Indiana Chapter serves 108 counties in Kentucky as well as in Clark and Floyd counties. In the territory, more than 4,900 people are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Ramp it up for MS is accepting applications from anyone living with the disease within a 60-mile radius of Louisville. To get a mailed application, call 1-800-344-4867 or download the application at nationalmssociety.org/kyw. All applications must be received by March 15.

 

Young, Rhoads to update constituents

State Sen. Richard D. Young, of Milltown, and State Rep. Rhonda Rhoads, of Corydon, will discuss legislative issues with the public at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2.

The event, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County and the Harrison County Farm Bureau, will be held in the Superior Courtroom of the Harrison County Justice Center, 1445 Gardner Lane, Corydon. The event should end around 9 a.m.

 

Prom aid coming this weekend

The sixth-annual Prom Aid, sponsored by the Clark County 4-H Junior Leaders, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 2, and Sunday, March 3, in the Community Building at the Clark County 4-H Fairgrounds, 9608 Ind. 62, Charlestown.

The collection of dresses and suits will be given away to any high school student from Clark, Floyd or neighboring counties. Nu Yale Cleaners has again agreed to clean the clothing for the giveaway. For more information call 812-256-4591.

 

NEW ALBANY

Hazelwood students prep for show

Hazelwood Middle School theater will perform Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” at the school at 7 p.m., March 14-15. 

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. both nights. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for school age students, kindergarten through high school.

 

LSI holding reception

Leadership Southern Indiana is hosting an alumni event — a wine and cheese reception — at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at River City Winery, 321 Pearl St., New Albany.

The event is free for members and $10 for nonmember alumni and guests.

 

Kiwanis hosting pancake breakfast

The New Albany Kiwanis will host a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Tumbleweed Restaurant, 2005 State St., New Albany.

The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children 2 to 12 years of age.

The event will feature John Oakes, world record holder in highest pancake toss                                                                              

Proceeds go to The Salvation Army Children’s Christmas Party and scholarships.     

 

CLARKSVILLE

City-town study meeting set

The Clarksville City-Town Study Committee will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 2.

The meeting will be held in the executive conference room of Clarksville Town Hall, 2000 Broadway, Clarksville. The meeting is open to the public.

Floyd Memorial Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate will sponsor a free diabetes update seminar from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. March 9 at the Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana, 2210 Green Valley Road, New Albany. 

Learn about new diabetes medications, hear tips and tricks from a fellow diabetes patient who has successfully gotten their hemoglobin A1C under control, participate in a question-and-answer session with a panel of registered dietitians who specialize in diabetes care, and hear from the YMCA on diabetes-specific exercise programs they have to offer.
