H.S. ROUNDUP: Pioneers blast Clarksville for City Championship

Floyd sweeps Silver Creek in girls' tennis action

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — The Providence softball team scored six times in the sixth and seventh innings and cruised to a 15-2 victory over rival Clarksville in the City Championship on Monday at Clarksville High School.

The Pioneers led 3-2 after five innings before exploding for 12 runs in the final two frames.

“We challenged them late in the game and [the Pioneers] put it together as a team,” Providence coach Sean Payne explain the onslaught.

Melinda Cochran came off of the Pioneer bench to earn Most Valuable Player honors. She went 2-for-2 with a triple, walk, two runs and an RBI.

Meredith Endris picked up the win for Providence. Bailey Sharpe had a double and Brooke Lucas smacked a triple for the Generals.

NEXT: Clarksville (4-5) will host Silver Creek, tonight; Providence (8-4) will host Corydon Central, Wednesday.

• Bush, Dragons blank Austin: McKenzie Bush pitched a five-hit shutout and went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead host Silver Creek past Austin in five innings on Monday, 13-0. Also for the Dragons, Shayla Cravens went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and two RBIs, Sydney Ledwedge was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Olivia Scarbrough was 2-for-4.

NEXT: Silver Creek (9-3, 4-0 Mid-Southern Conference) hosts Clarksville, today.

• Bulldogs win NA Invite: New Albany earned a pair of 10-run victories to capture Saturday’s New Albany Invitational title. The Bulldogs defeated Trinity Lutheran 11-1 in five innings before topping Lanesville 10-0 in the title game.

New Albany’s Sydney Michell went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the triumph over Trinity. Bulldog sophomore Hannah Morton tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out 10 in the championship. She walked just one Eagle.

NEXT: New Albany (8-2) will host Seymour, tonight.

• Farvour leads Braves to win over Eastern: Shelbie Farvour went 4-for-4, hit a grand slam and was the winning pitcher as Borden defeated Eastern 12-6 on Saturday. Caitlin McKinley also went 2-for-4 for the Braves.

NEXT: Borden hosts Lanesville, today; Eastern will host Austin, Thursday.
