H.S. BASKETBALL: Baker named second team All-State

Jeff’s Williams, Borden’s McCoy, New Albany’s Parrish named honorable mention

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Jeffersonville’s Darryl Baker was named second-team All-State Tuesday by the Associated Press.

Baker, who averaged 23.4 points per game, was the News and Tribune Player of the Year after leading the Red Devils to a 24-4 record and sectional and regional titles in 2012-13.

Baker will attend Lamar University next season and play for Pat Knight and former Jeff star Sherron Wilkerson, who is an assistant coach under Knight, for the Cardinals.

Five likely future Division I players were named to the first team: Hamilton Southeastern senior Zak Irvin, Park Tudor junior Trevon Blueitt, Tech’s Trey Lyles, Carmel senior Michael Volovic and Mishawaka Marian’s Demetrius Jackson. Jackson will play at Notre Dame, Irvin is headed to Michigan, while Lyles, Blueitt and Volovic are undecided.

Lyles is reportedly leaning toward Louisville or Kentucky, while Blueitt has widdled his choices down to 13 schools, including Louisville, Purdue and Indiana.

Baker is joined on the second team by Purdue recruit Bryson Scott of Fort Wayne Northrop, future Indiana Hoosier James Blackman Jr. for Fort Wayne Luers, Evansville Bosse’s Ja’Quan Lyle and Tipton’s Mike Crawford.

Indiana recruit Collin Hartman of state runner-up Cathedral leads the third team, which also includes Triton’s Clay Yeo, who lost in the state championship game to Borden. Also on the third team is Bryant McIntosh of Class 3A champion Greensburg, future Evansville Ace Blake Simmons and New Haven forward V.J. Beacham, who will join Jackson in South Bend.

Borden senior Jalen McCoy, New Albany senior Jermaine Parrish and Jeff junior Keenan Williams were named honorable mention.
