Sullivan named IU Southeast interim coach
IU Southeast athletic director Joe Glover announced on Tuesday that Brian Sullivan has been named the school’s interim women’s tennis head coach.
Sullivan currently serves as IU Southeast assistant women’s basketball coach. He will continue in that capacity during this interim appointment.
“I am excited to see Brian expand his role on the IU Southeast coaching staff,” Glover said. “He has done a great job with the women’s basketball team and I look forward to watching him utilize his skills in recruiting and player development.”
Sullivan, a New Albany native, joined the women’s basketball team last season after seven seasons as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Bellarmine University from 2003-2004 and 2006-2012. During that time, the Knights made three trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
“I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to resume my tennis coaching career, especially right here in my hometown,” Sullivan said. “IU Southeast has set the standard for tennis excellence in the KIAC over the past 15 years and I’m looking forward to helping our players achieve greater success on the national stage.”
Sullivan started his coaching career at New Albany High School, his alma mater, in 1993 as the assistant boys’ and girls’ tennis coach. The teams combined to win three sectional titles and one regional championship. He helped lead the girls’ program to its first Sweet Sixteen appearance in school history in 1995.
In addition to serving as its women’s basketball head coach, Sullivan also was the head coach for the Brescia University men’s golf team from 2004-2006. He led the Bearcats to the NAIA national championship tournament in 2005. He was named the NAIA Region XII Coach of the Year that season as well.
