Godfrey gets called up to Single-A

New Albany grad goes 2-for-4 in Rome debut

ROME, GA. — New Albany graduate Sean Godfrey was in the top seven in six different offensive categories for the Rookie League Danville Braves.

The obvious step for the Mid-America Conference Player of the Year was to get the call-up in the Braves’ organization.

On Friday, Godfrey made the move from Danville to Single-A Rome (Ga.). He promptly went 2-for-4 with a run in the Rome’s 7-3 victory over Hickory (N.C.) on Friday. He batted seventh and played center field. After grouding out in his first at-bat, he singled and later scored in the Braves’ pivotal five-run fourth inning. After a strikeout in the fifth, he singled again to lead off the seventh.

Godfrey went 28-for-68 (.412) with 17 runs, nine doubles, one triple, nine RBIs, three stolen bases, a .413 on-base percentage and slugged .574 in Danville (Va.). His nine doubles led the league as he departed. He was second in batting, fourth in runs, slugging and OPS (on-base plus slugging) and seventh in on-base percentage.

Godfrey was a 21st-round draft pick of the Braves in May.
