TEN TO WATCH: Highlanders believe they’re contenders

Floyd confident despite 4-17 mark

(Continued)

FLOYDS KNOBS — SALEM (2-16) at BORDEN (15-4)

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RANKINGS: Borden — Class A No. 9 AP.

• LAST 20 YEARS: Salem 18-11.

• EARLIER THIS SEASON: Borden 59, at Salem 38 (Washington County Invitational).

• LAST YEAR: Borden 63, at Salem 34.

• REASON TO WATCH: It’s been a good year in Borden. Maybe even better than expected after losing four starters. However, there have been some inconsistencies — mostly on offense — over the past few weeks. The Braves could use a decisive win heading into the tournament.

• ANALYSIS: Salem used to dominate this series. No long. The Braves will cruise to their fifth straight win in this rivalry.

• THE PICK: Borden 59, Salem 32.

SEYMOUR (2-16) at SILVER CREEK (12-6)

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• RANKINGS: Silver Creek — Class 3A No. 14 AP.

• LAST 20 YEARS: Seymour 9-4.

• LAST YEAR: Silver Creek 53, at Seymour 47.

• REASON TO WATCH: Three games in four days and fifth games in eight days is like an NBA schedule. It will be interesting to see how the hurting Dragons respond after Thursday’s big game at Clarksville.

• ANALYSIS: At this point in the Owls’ rebuilding process, Creek simply has too much talent for Seymour. The big test will come Tuesday when Madison will try to exact revenge for an earlier loss to the Dragons.

• THE PICK: Silver Creek 57, Seymour 44.

PROVIDENCE (12-6) at NEW WASHINGTON (6-14)

• TIME: 7:30 p.m.

• LAST 20 YEARS: Providence 15-5.

• LAST YEAR: At Providence 58, New Washington 18.

• REASON TO WATCH: The Mustangs managed just 18 points against a swarming Providence defense a year ago. New Wash coach Jonathan May said he believes his team can win the Borden Sectional next week. The Mustangs can go a long way toward proving that to themselves with an upset on Friday.

• ANALYSIS: The Pioneer defense isn’t as strong as it was last year, but it’s still solid. The Mustangs have scored under 40 points eight times this season and has scored 51 or fewer in 14 of 20 games. It could be a long night at Matthews Gymnasium.

• THE PICK: Providence 50, New Washington 29.
