ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

• Brendan Chwalek (Northern Kentucky men’s track, Silver Creek graduate, Jr.) — top performance: fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational last Saturday in Cincinnati, 9:14.08, NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark; notes: Chwalek’s steeplechase time was the second-fastest in NKU history and the sixth-fastest among Division II runners this season.

BORDEN

• Kyle Craig (IU Southeast baseball, Fr.) — notes: no-decision relief outing in the Grenadiers’ 10-9 home loss to Oakland City on Monday, 2 1/3 innings pitched, three runs allowed (one earned), two hits, two walks, two strikeouts; team records: 17-18 overall, 11-5 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; Craig’s record: 0-0.

• Dylan Martin (Ancilla baseball, Fr.) — notes: 1-for-3 with one run scored in the Chargers’ 7-5 victory in eight innings last Saturday at St. Clair County Community College in Game 2 of a doubleheader; team records: 6-17 overall, 2-8 Michigan Community College Athletic Association.

• Justin Baxtron (Indiana State men’s track, Jr.) — notes: fifth in the 1,600 relay in the Big Blue Classic last Thursday through Saturday in Charleston, Ill., 3:19.81; 12th in the 400, 49.6.

CLARKSVILLE

• Kelsey Becker (Wilmington softball, Jr.) — weekly stats: 3-for-10, six RBIs, two doubles, two runs scored, one home run; top performance: 1-for-4 with four RBIs and one scored thanks to a third-inning grand slam in the Quakers’ 8-1 home win over Heidelberg last Saturday in Game 1 of a doubleheader; team records: 11-13 overall, 2-2 Ohio Athletic Conference.

• Jordan Batliner (IU Southeast softball, Fr.) — weekly stats: 2-for-11, four RBIs, two runs scored; 0-0 record, 3 1/3 innings pitched, two runs allowed (one earned), three hits, one strikeout, no walks; notes: 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI in the Grenadiers’ 13-0 win last Sunday at Brescia in the first game of a doubleheader; team records: 13-15 overall, 3-1 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; Batliner’s record: 0-0.

• Brad Baumann (Hanover men’s golf, So.) — notes: 63rd in the Hanover Spring Invitational last weekend in Seymour with a two-round score of 171, 27-over-par (86 in the first round, 85 in the final).

• Garrett Blackman (Southern Indiana men’s track, Jr.) — notes: 39th in the 5,000 in the Washington University Invitational last Friday and Saturday in St. Louis, 15:51.5.

• Ben Boesing (Southern Indiana men’s tennis, Jr.) — weekly stats: 2-0 singles record, 1-1 doubles record; top performance: No. 3 singles win (6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 doubles victory (8-3) in the Screaming Eagles’ 9-0 victory last Friday at Bellarmine; team records: 15-2 overall, 2-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference.

• Will Cox (Southern Indiana men’s track, So.) — notes: 22nd in the 10,000 in the Washington University Invitational last Friday and Saturday in St. Louis, 32:55.4.

• Ben Engle (IUPUI men’s golf, Sr.) — notes: Engle had to withdraw from the final round of the Penn Quaker Invitational on Monday because of an injury. He shot an 81 in the first round.

• David Frank (Indianapolis men’s golf, So.) — notes: 80th in The Jewell last Saturday and Sunday in Georgetown, Ky., with a two-round score of 156, 12-over-par (79 in the first round, 77 in the final); the Greyhounds tied for first place with Northern Kentucky.

• Meghan Jones (Bellarmine women’s track, So.) — top performance: fifth in the 400 in the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational last Saturday in Cincinnati, 56.98, school record and personal record; notes: seventh in the 1,600 relay, 4:01.54; eighth in the high jump, 5-1/4.

• Craig Kirchgessner (Western Kentucky men’s tennis, Sr.) — weekly stats: 2-0 singles record, 1-1 doubles record; top performance: No. 4 singles win (6-0, 6-0) and No. 1 doubles victory (8-4) in the Hilltoppers’ 6-1 win last Friday at Tennessee State; team record: 5-7 overall.
