Highlanders go to 20-0 after 11-3 win over Seymour

• Highlanders move to 20-0:
Class 4A No. 1 Floyd Central scored three times in the first inning and four more in the third and beat Seymour 11-3 on Thursday to improve to 20-0.

“It was nice to get out to a 3-0 lead,” Floyd manager Casey LaDuke said. “From there, other than the fifth inning, we kind of held them down.”

Jacob Snodgrass hit a pair of doubles and Kyle Neafus homered for the Highladers. Kyle Sipes improved to 7-0 with the victory.

NEXT: Floyd Central (20-0) hosts Columbus North, today.

• Hornets take out Borden: Cody Reister needed just 86 pitches as he helped Henryville defeat Borden 6-1.

Dakota Harrell’s two-run home run helped the Hornets open up a 3-0 victory after one inning. Cody Brock singled in Bailey Hall for the third run of the frame.

Borden’s David Vansant hit a double as one of the Braves’ three base hits off of Reister.

After scoring six runs to take the lead in the fourth, freshman Zach Ramirez hit a bases-clearing double in the sixth.

“It’s nice to get back to some better fundamentals after some not-so-pretty games lately,” Charlestown manager Ricky Romans said. “Our pitchers did a much better job of competing tonight and we did a better job at the plate. We still aren’t where we need to be but tonight was at least a step in the right direction.”

Tyler Willinger went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Pirates.

NEXT: Charlestown (14-5, 5-2 MSC) hosts Southwestern (DH), Saturday.

• Williams shuts down Scottsburg: Eastern picked up a 5-0 Mid-Southern Conference victory over Scottsburg behind Shane Williams’ shutout.

Williams allowed just two Warrior hits and struck out 11. Kaleb Nicholson went 3 for 4 and scored a pair of runs for the Musketeers.

NEXT: Eastern hosts Crawford County (DH), Saturday.
