H.S. BOYS' GOLF: Pioneers dominate Southern Indiana Open

Bulldogs second, Jeff third at Hidden Creek

JEFFERSONVILLE — All five Providence boys’ golfers shot 88 or better as the Pioneers won the Southern Indiana Open at Hidden Creek Golf Club by 14 strokes on Saturday.

Cory Cahalan led the Pioneers and tied West Washington’s Brady Millholland for medalist honors with a 77 before falling to Millholland in a playoff.

Max Hupp added a 79 on the par-72 course. Kevin Crone shot an 81, Mitchell Allender an 83 and Robert Waiz an 88 for Providence. The Pioneers shot 320 as a team.

New Albany finished runner-up to the 18th-ranked Pioneers, led by Garrett Arnold, who was third overall with a 78. Kunal Bhanushali finished 12th with an 84 for the Bulldogs.

Jeff finished third in the meet as Jordan Lacy and Dillion Willis tied for fifth with 81s. Dalton Naisor was a shot behind his teammates.

Clarksville’s Nick Cappola tied Crone, Lacy, Willis and Scottsburg’s Luke Taylor for fifth place overall. Henryville finished fifth as a team with a 366, led by 14th-place Luke Davidson’s 85. Mitchell Fields finished his round in 90 shots and Cole Hairston finished in 94 for the Hornets.

“Overall, we played pretty well,” Henryville coach Robin Embry said. “However, each of the guys had a couple of holes that hurt their total. We’ll keep improving because these guys will keep working.”

Borden finished eighth with a 377. Reilly Gray had a Braves-best 89, T.J. Fraley shot a 92 and Tony Waggoner III a 96.

Andrew Shaw shot an 88 and Chris Braun an 89 for Charlestown, which finished 12th. Sam Garr led 14th-place Silver Creek with a 98. Jayson Arrell had a team-best 92 for Christian Academy.
