COLLEGE BASEBALL: Grenadiers Sweep No. 18 Judson University

NEW ALBANY — The IU Southeast baseball team pushed its winning streak to four games with a sweep of the No.18-ranked Judson Eagles in a doubleheader on Sunday.

In the opener, IU Southeast (16-14) struck for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Alex Potter doubled to start the rally and Jarret Young walked. Josh Beams hit a sacrifice fly to right center after a passed ball allowed both runners to advance. After a wild pitch by Jordan Pemble, Frank Pluskota singled to score Young. A single by Jake Roberts scored Brad Walker. Then Pluskota scored on an error by the second baseman Josh Hauser.

Evan Bickett pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the victory. He struck out three and did not allow a base runner. Jake Roberts went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In Game 2, the IU Southeast offense scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the third to jump out to a comfortable lead.

Potter got the second inning started with a single, which was followed by a Tyler Adams single. Both runners advanced into scoring position on a bobble by the shortstop Alex Mumm. Elijah Burdette grounded out to the pitcher and Potter scored. Young singled to score Adams.

The Grenadiers added two more runs in the third when Roberts doubled to sore Josh Beams who had singled. Pluskota reached base on a walk and advanced to third on Roberts’ double. Potter ground out to score Pluskota and give the Grenadiers a 4-0 lead.

That lead was more than enough for Clint Chestnut, who worked five innings of one-run, four-hit baseball. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.

Beams went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. He ended the game with a great diving catch in left field.

IU Southeast hosts Campbellsville today. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
