NEW ALBANY — Floyd Central cross country had a good day on Saturday as both the girls’ and boys’ teams won their respective races in the Hoosier Hills Conference meet at Prosser School of Technology.

The girls took first in dominant fashion with 19 points. New Albany came in second with a score of 68.

All seven of Floyd Central’s girls placed in the top 10, led by first-place Lydia Kotowski in a time of 19:43.

“It was a great day for Floyd Central cross country” said Highlander girls’ coach Carl Hook. “Lydia Kotowski ran a great race, especially considering she was all alone for 2 1/2 miles. She stayed focused and relaxed and cruised to an easy win. Having six girls make All-Hoosier Hills [Conference team] was amazing and a first for us during my 12 years as girls’ head coach.”

New Albany’s Rose Kaforski finished second behind Kotowski in a time of 20:30.

“Rose ran outstanding. That was three years of hard work paying off for her,” said New Albany coach Paul Hamilton. “Our girls ran very well. I’m pleased with their performance.”

Jeffersonville finished the meet coming in eighth with 205 points.

The boys’ race was more competitive with 10 points separating winner Floyd Central (48) and runner-up Seymour (58).

Floyd received top-five finishes from Luke Uhl in third (17:10) and Alec Heitz in fourth (17:11).

“I’m very proud of the boys today. Pulling out a win over a very good Seymour team was great. I told our guys this week that we just had to race them man-for-man and see if we could make something special happen and we did,” said Highlander boys’ coach Tim Korte.

New Albany finished seventh with 184 points, and Hamilton credits that to the team’s youth.

“Our boys are young and their inexperience showed today,” he said. “However, they are a competitive bunch and I expect they will rebound for sectional.”

The Red Devil boys team placed eighth with 205 points.

All three teams will be in action next Thursday as they travel to the Providence Invitational at Community Park in New Albany.
