The weather played a part in the postponements of both the Jeffersonville and Corydon boys’ track sectionals on Thursday night.
The Corydon Sectional was suspended due to heavy rain. It will resume tonight with the field events starting at 6 and the running finals beginning at 6:30.
No events started at the Jeff Sectional due to the rain. It has been postponed until tonight with field events starting at 6 and the running beginning at about 7:30.
Rain didn’t just play havoc with Thursday night’s boys’ track and field sectionals, as all four local girls’ tennis sectionals were forced to reshuffle their schedules in the wake of the wet conditions:
• Silver Creek: Semifinals, today: 4 p.m.; Final, Saturday, 10 a.m.
• Jeffersonville: first round, today, 4 p.m.; semifinals, Saturday, 10 a.m., finals, Saturday 1 p.m.
• New Albany: Semifinals, today, 4 p.m.; finals, today (approximately 30 minutes following completion of semifinals
• Floyd Central: Semifinals, today, 4:30 p.m.; finals, final, today or Saturday, TBA (determination for final will be made after semifinals Saturday).
Baseball pairings announced
New Albany drew a first-round bye and will play Seymour in the semifinals of the Class 4A Floyd Central sectional.
Host Floyd will open the tournament against Bedford North Lawrence, while defending champion Jeffersonville drew Hoosier Hills Conference tournament winner Jennings County in the second first-round matchup.
Sectional play will begin on Memorial Day and continue through the remainder of the week.
At the Class 3A Mitchell Sectional, Silver Creek drew the opener against Crawford County while Charlestown will play against Salem in the first round.
In the Class 2A Sectional at Austin, defending champion Providence has a bye and will meet either the host Eagles or West Washington in the semifinal round.
Clarksville will play against Pekin Eastern in round one.
The Class A Sectional, held at Borden, will pit Henryville against New Washington in the opening game followed by Borden taking on defending champ South Central in game two.
In the semifinals, Christian Academy of Indiana goes up against Lanesville.
