CLARK COUNTY ROUNDUP: Dragons win on Senior Night

Four seniors make valuable contributions in victory.

In the final game of their careers, Silver Creek seniors Leann Osterhaudt, Brittany Rayborn, Mollie Hamilton and Shirley Jones helped lead the Dragons to a straight-set 25-13, 25-20, 25-22 victory over rival Henryville.

Of the foursome, Silver Creek coach Jeff Zimmerman said, “We’re really going to miss them and their commitment to our program.”

Osterhaudt had a team-high five digs, while Rayborn tied Haley Garr with a team-best seven kills. Jones added four kills and Hamilton added three.

Juniors Kristyn Maymon and Danielle Ramser also contributed for the 22-11 Dragons. Maymon had five aces and Ramser 22 assists.

“I feel like we’re where we need to be and we’re ready to compete for a sectional,” Zimmerman said.

For Henryville, now 18-12, Ashley Dickerson had a game-high 15 digs and Chelsea Rappe had five kills.

Even with the loss, Hornets coach Shallon Willen was happy with the effort.

“Silver Creek has a great program and we knew it would be extremely tough competition,” Willen said. “I told the girls before the match that I wanted to be able to tell them I was proud of them (after the match). I was able to do that. It was exactly what we needed going into the sectional.”

Both teams are off until next week’s sectional openers. The Dragons will face Charlestown on Tuesday at North Harrison. Henryville goes to Borden to face Rock Creek Christian Academy on Thursday.

• Mustangs drop four-set match: In its final regular-season match, New Washington fell to South Central, 25-20, 25-16, 15-25 and 25-11.

“We didn’t communicate well and we played erratic,” Mustang coach Gary Graham said.

Lindsey Crone led New Washington (16-13) with 18 kills. Kala Dieterland had six aces.

The Mustangs get another shot at South Central next Thursday when the two teams face off in the Borden Sectional.

• Braves finish SAC schedule unbeaten: In its regular-season finale, Southern Athletic Conference champion Borden went to Lanesville and beat the Eagles, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20 to finish the conference race without a loss.

Erin Mikel led the Braves with 18 kills and senior Jordan Cook had eight aces on Senior Night.

“Our defense played well tonight,” Borden coach D.J. Zipp said, “and our setter Kelli Holthouser made great sets all night.

The Braves, who will face Christian Academy of Indiana in the first round of the Borden Sectional on Tuesday, finished the regular-season at 20-12.
