H.S. GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Stars crush Red Devils, 68-36 in HHC opener

New Washington takes down Shawe, 52-29

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Jeffersonville took its undefeated record on the road Saturday to face its stiffest test of the season thus far.

Class 4A No. 1 and also unbeaten Bedford North Lawrence out-classed the Red Devils, 68-36.

“Tonight was a measuring stick for us.” Jeff coach Mike Warren said of facing the defending state champions. “Bedford is a awesome team and they showed they are No. 1 for a reason.”

Bedford took control of the game early and got consistent scoring from all over the floor.

In the first half, Bedford came out firing from all cylinders as it put up 18 points in the opening period and followed it up with 17 in the second quarter.

Sammy Dillman, Dominique McBryde and Jenna Allen were lighting it up for the Stars and combined for 54 points on the night.

“In the first half we wanted to come out with intensity and come out and compete,” Warren said. “They were executing perfectly and we were having a hard time containing them.”

In the third quarter, Bedford erupted for 21 points and held the Red Devils to just four, blowing the game wide open at 56-25.

“In the third quarter, they made a big run and took off. We were struggling and could not stop them.” Warren said.

Dillman finished with 15 points, McBryde added 19 and Allen led all scorers with 20 in the victory.

Haley Vogen and Taylor Hines were the top scorers for the Red Devils with Vogen scoring 11 points and Hines adding 10. Vogen also had the team high in rebounds with six boards.

“I’m very proud of the girls so far,” Warren said. “I like what I have seen out of the girls and we are proud of what we have accomplished early this season. We have to get back to work. Five of our next six games are conference games, so it’s a pretty important stretch of games coming up.”

The Devils begin a stretch of Hoosier Hills Conference games when they host Jennings County next Friday.
