The IHSAA announced Wednesday that Jeffersonville’s semistate matchup with Cathedral will be played at Plainfield High School.
The Red Devils and Irish will play following the Class A matchup between Vincennes Rivet and Rising Sun, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
The IHSAA allowed Jasper to play its semistate game at home against Crawfordsville. South Spencer will meet Park Tudor in the earlier Class 2A game at Jasper.
“I figured [Plainfield] is probably where we’d go,” Jeffersonville first-year manager Derek Ellis said. “I figured it would be too good to be true to get to go to Jasper.”
With a trip to next Saturday’s state championship game on the line, Cathedral should have a bit of a home-field advantage being 30 minutes away from Plainfield. Meanwhile, the Devils will have to travel approximately two hours.
“Their fans are pretty loyal and, being that close, it should be easier to get there,” Ellis admitted. “But it is a Saturday and we’re expecting good weather, so I hope to get the Big Red caravan up there to root us on.”
With Ellis being the fourth different Jeff manager in four years, just getting to the semistate and having a shot to play for a state championship is quite an accomplishment, he said.
“These kids have been through a tremendous amount,” Ellis said. “The things they’ve overcome, for them to get to the Final 4, is pretty remarkable, pretty special. That shows a lot of level-headedness and focus without outside distractions. All these kids have ever done is win — and they expect to win.”
