H.S. BOYS' BASKETBALL: Braves edge West Washington at home, 41-33

Beam leads No. 3 Braves with 15 points

BORDEN — The Borden boys’ basketball team pulled away from visiting West Washington in the fourth quarter on Tuesday and prevailed 41-33 at home.

The Class A No. 3 Braves (18-1) trailed 29-28 at the end of the third quarter. But in the fourth, they outscored the Senators 13-4 to post their 18th victory of the season.

Borden shot 5-of-7 from the free-throw line in the fourth. In addition, the Braves’ full-court pressure wore down West Washington in the final stanza.

Two Borden players scored in double figures. Senior guard Brandon Beam poured in a team-high 15 points. Junior guard Jalen McCoy had 13.

Braves’ junior Billy Kirchgessner chipped in seven, while teammate Michael Lynch had six.

For the game, Borden shot 10-of-13 from the stripe, while the Senators were 3-of-6.

Borden is two wins away from tying the school record for most victories in a season. The current record is 20 by the 2007-08 Braves, who won the first sectional and regional championships in program history.

Borden will host Salem on Friday in its regular-season finale.
