FLOYDS KNOBS —
The fourth-ranked team in class 3A flexed its muscles Friday night on Joe Hinton Court and host Floyd Central had no answers.
Corydon Central placed four players in double-figures and thrashed the Highlanders 65-34 to remain undefeated.
“They’re a good team, first and foremost,” Floyd head coach Mark Lieberman said of Corydon. “They’re experienced and know who they need to get the ball to. We had some good looks but on the defensive end we just weren’t very good and I’ve got to continue try to get us better defensively.”
The Highlanders (1-8) shot just 25 percent overall and was 5 of 25 from behind the arc. In contrast, Corydon (8-0) netted 56 percent from the floor.
“We started pressing on offense,” Lieberman said. “We started taking quicker, bad shots. We want good early shots not bad quick shots. We forced some stuff and didn’t get the ball moving and then we had bad floor balance.”
The Panthers turned a close game at intermission into a blowout with a stellar third quarter. The visitors outscored Floyd 22-5 in the third and never looked back. Corydon’s 6-foot-7 junior Bronson Kessinger scored 12 of his game high 22 in the stanza as Corydon went on to post its third win of 30 or more points this season.
“That third quarter has been a problem for us the whole season,” Lieberman said.
With the loss, the Highlanders are off to their worst start since the 2006-07 season.
“I’m not really worried about our morale,” Lieberman said. “I’m a big teacher and I keep stressing that we’re getting better. We’re going to watch this film tomorrow as a team and we’ll evaluate and get that breakthrough.”
Floyd is back in action next Friday when it host Hoosier Hills Conference rival Jeffersonville.
