Highlander girls’ golf captures Jasper Invite title



• Dragons fall at South Ripley: South Ripley scored in the 22nd minute of the match and held on to defeat visiting Silver Creek on Saturday, 1-0.

“We outshot them 14-7, but they capitalized on a defensive mistake,” Dragons’ coach Patrick Anderson said. “We passed the ball very well and got better today even though we lost.”

NEXT: Silver Creek at Southwestern, Tuesday.

• Pioneers split matches in District 5 tourney: Providence went 1-1 in the District 5 Tournament on Saturday at Columbus North.

The Pioneers suffered their first loss of the season in their opening match, suffering a 2-1 setback to Lawrenceburg. Alyssa Jones recorded Providence’s only goal in the second half.

The Pioneers bounced back in their second match with a 3-2 win over New Castle. Trailing 1-0, Providence tied the game in the latter half at one when Sarah Posante connected on a 25-yard diagonal shot. Jones then put the Pioneers in front at 2-1 with a goal shortly thereafter.

After the Trojans deadlocked the game at two, Posante got her second goal with five minutes left in regulation to give Providence the lead for good.

NEXT: Providence (2-1-0) hosts Forest Park, Tuesday.

• Warriors blank Southwestern: Amy Leffler and Autumn Kastensmidt each scored two goals in Christian Academy’s 9-0 victory over visiting Southwestern on Friday.

Teammate Brittany Albert each had a goal and two assists, while CAI’s Makenzie Wingham and a goal and an assist. Also kicking in goals for the Warriors were Kiersten Carruthers, Rachel Wright and Shannon Millar.

NEXT: Christian Academy hosts Salem, Monday.
