H.S. ROUNDUP: Highlanders sweep Bulldogs in a pair of dual meets

Clarksville softball wins opener against Crawford County

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — The Floyd Central girls’ and boys’ track teams pulled off a sweep over Floyd County rival New Albany on Tuesday at Buerk Field. The Highlander boys defeated the Bulldogs, 85-47. In the girls’ meet, Floyd Central nipped New Albany, 69-63.

In the girls’ meet, Madison Kaiser and Leah Wolfe each won two events for the Highlanders. Kaiser prevailed in the 100-meter hurdles and 300 hurdles, while Wolfe was the victor in the discus and shot put.

For New Albany, Jayla Bethel won the 100 and 200, while teammate Bailey Knable was first in the 1,600 and 3,200.

Codie Hamsley led the Floyd Central boys in their victory, winning the shot put and the discus. Tuwan Payton paced New Albany by finishing first in the 200 and second in the 100.

NEXT: Floyd Central in Stargazer Invitational at Corydon Central and at Jeffersonville Inferno Invitational, Friday; New Albany at Jeffersonville Inferno Invitational, Friday.

• Hornet girls win dual meet: Henryville edged Corydon Central in a dual meet on Tuesday at Clarksville, 62-60. Winning two events for the Hornets were Natalie Lamotte (100, 200), Sadie Spears (1,600, 3,200) and Baylee Stewart (400 long jump).

In a triangular meet, the host Generals scored 46 points to finish second to first-place Corydon (61 points). The Hornets were third with 35 points. Clarksville’s Marquise Parrish won the 100 and 200.

NEXT: Clarksville will host Charlestown, Salem, Thursday; Henryville, Rock Creek Academy at New Washington, Thursday.

• Both Pirate teams win in quad meet: Charlestown boys’ and girls’ track teams each won their home quadrangular meets on Tuesday. New Washington finished second in each meet, followed by Christian Academy and Rock Creek Academy.

The Pirates’ Desmond Wiley (shot put, discus) and Eli Daniel (long jump, 110 hurdles) each won two events. For the Mustangs, Ian Hughes was first in the high jump and 400, and Adan Diaz won the 300 hurdles and 1,600.

Megan Brooks (shot put, discus), Lauren Crowe (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Alysha Flaget (400 and 800) each won twice for the Pirates. For New Wash, Kriston Sarver prevailed in the high jump and 200, and Alecia Harrod was the winner in the long jump and the 100.

NEXT: Charlestown, Salem at Clarksville, Thursday; New Washington will host Henryville, Rock Creek, Thursday; Christian Academy in Stargazer Invitational at Corydon, Friday.
