IUS has 32 KIAC Scholar-Athletes



Several area players to participate Top 100 showcases

Four boys’ basketball players and two girls’ basketball players from the Clark-Floyd area will participate in the 11th annual Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/IHSAA Top 100 Showcase boys’ and girls’ events at Ben Davis High School in July.

The boys’ showcase will be Thursday, July 18, while the girls’ showcase will take place on Tuesday, July 23. Each event will take place from 2-8 p.m.

Area players participating in the boys’ showcase will be New Albany’s Jeff Byrne and Leondre McBirth, Jeffersonville’s Myles Harvey and Keenan Williams and Clarksville’s Calvin McEwen. Also competing in the event will be North Harrison’s Cory Smith.

Floyd Central’s Brooke Hinton and Jeff’s Haley Vogen will be the two area players in the girls’ showcase. Joining the pair will be North Harrison’s Kendra Lambert and Corydon Central’s Marie Rothrock. Corydon girls’ coach Michael Uhl will be one of the coaches in the girls’ showcase.


FC graduate makes All-American scholar team

Saint Mary’s (Ind.) golfer and Floyd Central graduate Janice Heffernan is one of 89 NCAA Division III women’s golfers to be named to the 2012-13 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team.

To be named to the list, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average for the entirety of their collegiate career and be of high moral character and in good standing at the college making the nomination.

Additionally, Division III student-athletes must have participated in a minimum of 12 rounds and hold an adjusted scoring average of “95.00” or less. Playing more than 16 rounds during the 2012-13 academic year, Heffernan posted an 85.94 stroke average for the Belles.

It is the second year in a row Heffernan has been named a WGCA All-American Scholar.
