LATE TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Pirate boys fall to Scottsburg

Jeff swimming sweeps Madison

CHARLESTOWN —  In the second game of a girls-boys doubleheader, Scottsburg outscored the Pirates 23-12 in the second quarter and went on to a 65-50 Mid-Southern Conference victory on Tuesday.

The Warriors, who are now 3-2 overall and 3-2 in the MSC, led 39-25 at the half.

Scottsburg, which outscored Charlestown 21-7 at the foul line, was led by Cameron Schmidt’s 16 points. Teammate Christian Barrett added 15.

Jamal Long led Charlestown (1-3, 0-3) with 10 points. Tanner Wesp finished with nine and Hunter Crace eight for the Pirates, who go to Providence to face the 3-0 Pinoeers on Friday.

Host Jeffersonville’s boys and girls both earned huge victories over Hoosier Hills Conference rival Madison on Tuesday night.

It is the first time in 20 years both the Jeff boys and girls were unbeaten this late into the season.

The Red Devils girls beat the Cubs 123-51 with 12 first-place finishes. On top of winning all three relays, Jeff got victories from junior Elizabeth Browne in the 100-yard freestyle, senior Sam Glover in the 50 free, freshman Jacqueline Richard in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, senior Karlee Demsey in the two distance freestyle races, senior Erica Roman in diving, sophomore Amelia Blankenbeker in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. Browne was on three victorious relay teams.

Jeff’s boys had an even easier time. It beat the Cubs 134-46 behind three wins apiece from sophomore Ben Doss, Kevin Gast and Michael Cain. Doss took the 100 breaststroke and was on two relays, Gast won the 200 IM and the 500 free and was on the winning 200 free relay, and Cain won the 200 free, the 100 fly and was on the 400 free relay team.

Also victorious for the Red Devils were Cameron Simcoe in the 100 free, Zack Griffis in the 200 free, Jacob Stacy in the 100 back and Aidian Wood in diving.

The Red Devils travel to Floyd Central tonight for their biggest dual meet of the young season.
