H.S. ROUNDUP: Providence softball smashes South Central, 12-4

Salem tennis edges Eastern, 3-2

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — With a 13-run third inning, the Providence Pioneers sailed past the visiting South Central Rebels, 20-4 Tuesday.

The win was the fifth for the Pioneers and the most impressive thus far.

Providence only needed 4 1/2 innings to run-rule the Rebels.

After starting slow with just three runs in the first two innings, the Pioneers exploded in the third for 13 runs and blew the game open. Providence added four more runs in the fourth before closing out South Central in the top of the fifth. The Pioneers pounded out 17 hits in the victory with five of them leading to extra bases.

Jaquie Harnung enjoyed a nice day at the plate, with her two doubles she led the Pioneer attack. Marlee Karem, Lillian Hughes, and Charlie Wooford all also collected doubles in the victory.

Sierra Collett was the winning pitcher. She went five innings and allowed four runs on just four hits.

The win puts the Pioneers at 5-2 on the season. They travel to Pekin to play Eastern today.
