HS ROUNDUP: Reich tosses Pirates past Generals

Charlestown remains unbeaten in MSC

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Charlestown stays unbeaten in the Mid-Southern Conference (4-0) after a 7-2 win at Clarksville on Thursday.

Charlestown struck early, and by the time Clarksville had scored, the Pirates had a 5-1 lead.

Charlestown’s Drew Reich was the winning pitcher on the evening, improving his record to 4-0 on the season. Reich dominated through 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits, just one earned run and fanning eight Generals.

“We did a nice job of getting an early lead, Charlestown head coach Ricky Romans said. “We played pretty well for the most part.”

The Pirate’s bats were paced by Tanner Wesp, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Reich and Kelly Rider also pitched in with doubles.

Clarksvilles’ Nick Jones also connected for a double and Justin Lind had a triple.

Charlestown is now 8-3 overall with the aforementioned prefect 4-0 conference mark. Clarksville is now 4-13 and 2-3 in the MSC.

“It’s always nice to get a conference win,” Romans said, “especially on the road. We’ve still got a lot of improvements to make, but I’m pleased with the effort tonight.”

Charlestown will play host to Silver Creek on Tuesday. Clarksville picks up on Thursday when it hosts MSC-rival Brownstown Central.
