The New Albany girls’ basketball team came up short against North Harrison on Thursday night in a game the Bulldogs let slip away. The Lady Cats defeated New Albany at The Doghouse, 48-41.
“We have got to learn how to take advantage of the opportunities we are giving,” New Albany coach Tammy Geron said.
The Bulldogs (1-2) got off to a good start and put up a lot of early points in the first quarter. New Albany was able to grab an early lead and maintain it throughout the first to take a 20-12 lead.
North Harrison used the second quarter to start chipping away at the Bulldog lead. The Lady Cats stayed with their scoring pace and was able to hold New Albany outscoring the Bulldogs 13-7, cutting the New Albany lead to two going into the half 27-25.
The Lady Cats took the lead from New Albany again in the third quarter, holding the Bulldogs to seven points in the quarter.
North Harrison was only able to put up 11 points, but it was just enough to take a two-point lead into the fourth, 36-34.
The back-and-forth action picked up in the fourth with both teams in reach of the victory. North Harrison’s defense was as good, as it had been for the last three quarters again holding the Bulldogs to only seven points in the final frame. The Lady Cats tallied up 12 points earning just enough to put the Bulldogs away 48-41.
Brianne Nixon led the Bulldogs with 12 points, while Lauren Camm posted six points, 13 rebounds and five assists as New Albany came up short.
“We have to have better processions and we have got to learn how to win,” said Geron.
