H.S. BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Clarksville boys stay perfect in MSC action

Eastern upsets previously-unbeaten Paoli

AUSTIN — Clarksville used a big second quarter run to take down host Austin in a big 51-42 Mid-Southern Conference victory on Saturday.

The Class 2A No. 2 Generals (10-1) moved to the top of the MSC standings at 3-0, tied with Brownstown Central and Silver Creek and a half-game ahead of Corydon Central. Clarksville and Corydon had their showdown snowed out on Friday.

D.J. Coleman led the way for the Generals with 18 points.

Clarksville outscored the Eagles 21-9 in the second period to take the lead the lead for good.

Andrew Jones scored 11 and hit a pair of 3s for the Generals. Devin Richey —  Jones’ former teammate at Henryville — led the Eagles (4-6, 2-2 MSC) with 16 points.

The Generals will look to improve to 4-0 in conference play when it travels to Scottsburg this coming Friday.

NEWCOMB LEADS MUSKETEERS TO UPSET OF PAOLI

Sophomore Grant Newcomb knocked down six 3-pointers and scored 24 points to help host Eastern knock off Class 2A No. 8 Paoli on Saturday, 64-51.

The loss was the first for the Rams, who opened the season with eight straight wins.

The Musketeers trailed 15-11 after one quarter before outscoring Paoli 17-6 in the second to take a 28-21 lead into the break. Eastern pushed the advantage to 46-37 after three quarters.

Dakota Snider added 14 points and Alex Doebler chipped in with 10 for the Musketeers, who are now 3-8. The Rams were led by Skylar Stroud’s 14 points.
