H.S. FOOTBALL: New Albany’s Payton commits to Indianapolis

NEW ALBANY — New Albany High School senior Tuwan Payton has given a verbal commitment to play football next season at the University of Indianapolis.

Payton was the 2013 News and Tribune Area Player of the Year. He rushed for 2,177 yards and 24 touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 6-4 record. In New Albany’s 55-6 win over Jennings County last season, he set single-game school records in rushing yards (390) and rushing touchdowns (seven).

Indianapolis is an NCAA Division II school that plays in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. This past season, the Greyhounds went 10-2 overall and won the GLVC with a 7-0 conference record. They lost in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs to West Texas A&M, 27-14.
