HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS: Payton to play in North-South All-Star Game

Bulldog back rushed for 2,177 yards in ‘13


INDIANAPOLIS — New Albany High School senior running back Tuwan Payton has been selected to play in the 48th Indiana Football Coaches Association/Grange Insurance North-South Indiana High School All-Star Football Game on July 18 at Indianapolis North Central High School. The game will kick off at 7 p.m. Payton will compete for the South All-Stars.

Payton was the 2013 News and Tribune Area Player of the Year. He rushed for 2,177 yards and 24 touchdowns last season for the 6-4 Bulldogs. In New Albany’s 55-6 win over Jennings County on Sept. 6, he set single-game school records in rushing yards (390) and rushing touchdowns (seven).

Payton has signed a national letter of intent to play football next season at NCAA Division II Indianapolis.


Nine Clark-Floyd area girls’ basketball players have made the honorable-mention lists for the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association/Subway All-State teams.

Four local players were honorable mention for the IBCA Senior All-State squad. They were Jeffersonville’s Aurreeshae Hines and Haley Vogen, New Washington’s Ashley Johnson and Floyd Central’s Riley Kaiser.

Two Harrison County received honorable-mention votes as well in North Harrison’s Kendra Lambert and Corydon Central’s Marie Rothrock.

Five area players got on the honorable-mention list for the IBCA Underclass All-State team in Charlestown’s Kaitlynn Henning, Henryville’s Emily Hollis, Floyd Central’s Madison Kaiser, Providence’s Claire Rauck and Borden’s Natalie Ruedinger.
