HS ROUNDUP: Floyd baseball rallies to beat North, 11-5

Borden softball beats Shawe, 10-0

> SOUTHERN INDIANA — Floyd Central scored seven runs on seven hits in the seventh inning to take an 11-5 victory over Columbus North.

Brandon Smith led the way on the mound and at the plate for the Highlanders, who improved to 18-2 with the victory.

Smith went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a triple and a walk. He drove in three and scored three times. On the mound, he threw a complete game, strikeout out five Bull Dogs and walking one.

After Floyd scored two run in the first, including Smith’s first home run, North (13-3) came back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the first frame. The Highlanders then took a 4-3 lead in the fourth before the Bull Dogs countered with two runs in the fifth for a 5-4 lead, which it held until the seventh.

“We beat a very good team,” Floyd coach Casey LaDuke said. “That’s probably the best offensive team we’ve played all year.”

Colton Kimm added two doubles for Floyd, which hosts Jeffersonville in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament on Monday.

SOFTBALL

Borden’s softball team continued its hot play with a 10-0 victory over Madison Shawe on Friday.

The Braves had 14 hits, including doubles from Haley Shouse, Taylor Steander and Caitlin McKinley, in the victory.

“They had to make some big adjustments at the team and they were able to do that,” Borden coach Alex Knerr said.

Shouse went 3-for-4, McKinley was 2-for-3 and Streander went 2-for-3 for the Braves, who . Also for Borden, Kristen Nestor was 2-for-3 in the win.

Paige Schindler picked up the shutout victory for Borden. She surrendered just three hits in the win.
