Emily Gray struck out seven in a complete-game winning effort to lead host Jeffersonville to a 4-1 victory over the Madison softball team in the first round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament on Tuesday. The game was postponed on Monday because of rain.
Gray allowed one run (unearned) on four hits and she hit one batter.
The Red Devils’ Janel Nelson and Tori Flaten each went 2-for-3. Nelson collected a double.
“We put the ball in play enough to win,” Jeff coach Jodi Bradley said. “Emily did a great job and hopefully that will carry over into [today].”

• Bulldogs fall to Jennings: Host New Albany lost its opening-round game of the HHC Tournament to Jennings County at Prosser Field, 11-4.
The Bulldogs’ Hannah Morton was the losing pitcher. In a complete-game effort, the sophomore gave up 11 runs (nine earned) on 19 hits.
“Jennings was on a tear hitting the ball. They can hit up and down the lineup,” New Albany coach Steve Belden said.
New Albany scored all four of its runs in bottom of the sixth. Brooke McCoy had a two-run triple and Morton collected a two-run single.

• Red Devils beat Jennings: Jeffersonville advanced to tonight’s semifinals of the HHC Tournament by winning at Jennings County in Tuesday’s first-round game, 2-0.
The Red Devils’ Drew Ellis and Josh Burke each had two hits and an RBI.
