HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: New Albany stays perfect with 7-3 win over Borden

Bulldog tennis edges Silver Creek, 3-2

NEW ALBANY — New Albany used a five-run fifth inning to down Borden 7-3 and improved to 4-0 Wednesday at Mt. Tabor Field.

Locked in a 1-1 tie for three innings, Borden opened the fourth inning with a run and took a 2-1 lead. The Bulldogs responded and took the lead for good with a huge rally scoring five.

“I was very impressed with Borden,” New Albany coach Chris McIntyre said. “They are going to have an outstanding season.”

New Albany used four different pitchers to get the win. Joey Collins picked up the victory, pitching the finals two innings to close out the Braves.

Timmie Redford and Matt Sogge both plated two runs for the Bulldogs. Garrett Vick and Tucker Marcum both had doubles.

New Albany will try to stay perfect tonight when it hosts Tri County (Mich.). Borden (0-1) will look for its first win Saturday when the Braves go to Clarksville for a doubleheader.

    Game notes: Ryan Mueller pitched four innings, allowing just one hit.

    Providence coach Scott Hornung: “We came out with some really good at-bats in the first inning and our baserunning was exceptional. We were just very aggressive and smart on the bases.”

    Records: Providence 2-2, Crawford County 1-2.

    Next: Providence hosts Brownstown, today.
