H.S. ROUNDUP: Henryville softball shocks Salem, 7-3

Silver Creek girls’ track finishes fourth in MSC meet



• Braves keep rolling:
Host Borden remained perfect on the season on Tuesday with a 4-1 victory over Providence.

At No. 2 singles, the Braves’ Sarah Hurst defeated Alison Primavera, 6-2, 6-3.  Borden’s Kendyl Wheatly won at three singles over Olivia Bass, 6-0, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, the Braves’ tandem of Paige Kruer and Morgan Mast beat Abbie Shelton and Mary Ann Fitzpatrick, 6-0, 6-1. Borden’s Bailee Kruer and McKenzie Owens knocked off Erin Duncan and Katelyn Koopman, 6-1, 6-4.

Jacqueline Hollkamp provided the Pioneers’ lone point. The senior upended the Braves’ Abby Ellis at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

NEXT: Borden (12-0) will host North Harrison, Monday; Providence will entertain Silver Creek, Thursday.

• Pirates nip New Washington: The doubles teams of Hayley Trinkle and Bailey Masingo and Megan Crawford and Suzannah Fielding each got wins in Charlestown’s 3-2 victory at New Washington on Tuesday.

Winning for the Mustangs were Courtney Amick at No. 1 singles and Ashley Johnson at No. 3 singles.

NEXT: Charlestown will host Corydon Central, Thursday; New Washington hosts Scottsburg, today.

• Generals edge Brownstown: Host Clarksville got singles victories from Miranda Dekorte and Abigail Hurtgen to defeat Brownstown Central on Monday, 3-2. The Generals’ Brooke Grizzle and Courtney Miller prevailed at No. 2 doubles, 6-3, 6-0.

NEXT: Clarksville at Salem, next Monday.


• Floyd Central wins tri-meet:
Senior Devin Jenkins earned medalist honors with a 1-under-par 35 to lead Floyd Central to victory in a triangular meet on Tuesday against host Seymour and Jennings County at Shadowood Golf Course. Rounding out the scoring for the eighth-ranked Highlanders were Alex Beyer, Daniel Shepard and Connor Welch each firing a 39.

NEXT: Floyd Central at Zionsville Invitational (Trophy Club), Saturday.


• Hornets beat Borden:
Cody Reister smacked two three-run homers to lift host Henryville past Borden on Tuesday, 10-8. Reister ended up going 3-for-4 with six RBIs, while teammate Austin Bowles had three hits.

The Hornets’ Dylan Collins, Dakota Harrell and Cody Brock each had two hits.

Henryville relief pitcher Bailey Hall got the victory. He gave up five runs (one earned) in 6 2/3 innings of work.

“Bailey Hall came in relief after three batters and was a real workhorse for us tonight,” Hornets’ coach Jeff Schroeder said. “Our defense came up with some big plays as well that got us out of a few jams. Cody Reister had two big three-run homers that got us back into the game twice.”

Borden’s Kyle Kruer had two hits.

NEXT: Henryville (13-6) at Charlestown Invitational, Saturday; Borden (5-9) will host Brownstown Central (DH), Saturday.

• Eastern thumps New Washington: Cody Shepherd went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored to lead host Eastern past New Washington in six innings on Tuesday, 15-5.

The Musketeers’ Kaleb Nicholson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while teammate Shane Williams ended up 3-for-5 with three RBIs.

NEXT: Eastern at Clarksville, Thursday; New Washington hosts Shawe Memorial, today.
