H.S. ROUNDUP: Dragons start fast versus Hornets

Scarborough’s homer lifts Silver Creek past Henryville, 7-1

HENRYVILLE — The Silver Creek softball team got off to a fast start on Monday to defeat host Henryville, 7-1.

The Dragons’ Olivia Scarbrough smacked a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Silver Creek’s McKenzie Bush was the winning pitcher, while Henryville pitcher Ashtyn Kaskie got the loss.

“Silver Creek’s defense stole multiple hits from my girls today. They deserve all the credit for their outstanding plays,” Hornet coach Jenny Schroeder said.

NEXT: Silver Creek will host Providence, Wednesday; Henryville at Crothersville, today.

• Clarksville’s Sharp tosses no-hitter: Freshman Bailey Sharp recorded her first no-hitter of her career, which included 12 strikeouts, to lead host Clarksville past Borden on Monday in five innings, 10-0. Also for the Generals, Miranda Ridenour went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Brooke Lucas was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Katy Wingler went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

NEXT: Clarksville (6-9) at Eastern, Thursday; Borden will host Henryville, Thursday.

• FC pitchers no-hit Brownstown: Pitchers Caroline Cato, Kassie King and Morgan Harper combined to throw a no-hitter in Floyd Central’s 8-0 win at Brownstown Central. At the plate for the Highlanders, Katelin Dreher was 2-for-4 with a double, a homer and five RBIs, Taylor Batliner went 3-for-4, Cato was 3-for-3 and Regan Hadley went 2-for-3.

NEXT: Floyd Central (16-3) at Bedford North Lawrence, Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament first round, next Monday.

• Bulldogs roll past Columbus East: Hannah Veit went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored and Sidney Rudy was 3-for-5 with two triples and four RBIs to lead host New Albany past Columbus East on Monday in six innings, 13-3. Bulldogs’ pitcher Hannah Morton allowed five hits and struck out six in a complete-game win.

NEXT: New Albany (13-4) at Southwestern, today.

• Red Devils win at Southern in eight: Kayleigh Thomas’ sacrifice fly to left field with one out drove in Janel Nelson in the top of the eighth, leading visiting Jeffersonville to a 5-4 victory at Louisville Southern on Monday. The Red Devils’ Tori Flaten went 3-for-4, while teammates Tifany Sheets and Courtney Shepherd each were 2-for-4.

NEXT: Jeff (9-7) at Salem, Wednesday.

• Pirates shut out Madison: Alli Webster struck out a season-high 17 batters in tossing a two-hit shutout as host Charlestown beat Madison on Monday, 6-0. Webster and teammate Alyssa Price each went 3-for-4, while the Pirates’ Shelby Goedeker and Lexi Logsdon each had two hits.

NEXT: Charlestown (9-2) at Scottsburg, today (completion of suspended game).

• Freshman leads Pioneers past Austin: Freshman Riley Lovan pitched a five-inning one-hitter to earn her first high school win in host Providence’s 14-1 triumph against Austin on Monday. Lovan and teammates Jacquie Hornung and Morgan Boone all went 2-for-2.

NEXT: Providence (12-6) at West Washington, today.
