The Floyd Central baseball team bounced back from its 1-0 loss to Class 4A No. 8 Jeffersonville in Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament championship game on Monday at Memorial Field by blanking host Providence in six innings, 11-0.
The top-ranked Highlanders’ Kyle Beach pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out nine and walking one.
Derek DeSpain led the Floyd Central bats. He was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. Providence’s Andrew Hunt was the losing pitcher.

• No. 5 Dragons down Brownstown: Starting pitcher Lucas Barnett gave up one run (earned) on five hits with eight strikeouts in Class 3A No. 5 Silver Creek’s 10-1 home win over Class 3A No. 8 Brownstown Central on Monday.
The Dragons’ Cody Razer went 4-for-4 with a triple, while teammate Cameron Cook was 2-for-3.

• Musketeers fall at North Harrison: Cody Shepherd went 2-for-3 with a run scored as visiting Eastern lost at North Harrison on Monday, 8-1. Musketeer starting pitcher Dustyn Miller gave up eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits to get the loss.
NEXT: Eastern will host Mitchell, Wednesday.
• Pioneers win tri-meet against NA, Creek: Two days after winning the Southern Indiana Open, 18th-ranked Providence won a triangular meet at Covered Bridge Golf Club on Monday against New Albany (173) and Silver Creek (219). The Pioneers fired a team score of 166.
Providence’s Mitchell Allender collected medalist honors with a 39. Rounding out the Pioneers scoring were Cory Cahalan with a 41 and Kevin Crone and Robert Waiz each with a 43.
“Conditions were tough with the wind and length of the course,” Providence coach Ken Allender said. “I’m glad we had some kids hang in there for the win.”
Jonny Smith led the Bulldogs with a 40, while teammate Garrett Arnold had a 43. Sam Garr paced the Dragons with a 43.

• Highlanders second at Sollman Invite: Last Saturday, ninth-ranked Floyd Central finished second at the Sollman Invitational at The Trophy Club in Lebanon. Jack Sparrow led the Highlanders with a score of 73, while teammate Alex Beyer shot a 75.
