Led by Rachel Kavgazoff’s third-place finish in the pole vault and Leah Wolf’s fourth in the discus, Floyd Central’s girls’ track and field team finished fourth in the Bloomington North Regional on Tuesday.
Kavgazoff earned an automatic berth in the state finals with her third-place finish. Fourth-place finishers will be determined by time, height and distance.
Bloomington South edged Bloomington North by 12 points for the team title. Martinsville finish third.
New Albany’s 400 relay team finished a runner-up finish to South. The Panthers’ 49.32 time was a regional record and beat New Albany by just over one second.
Providence’s 1,600 relay team finished third to advance to state, one spot ahead of Jeffersonville. Maryashly Betz, who runs in the Providence 1,600 relay team, finished fourth in the 300 hurdles.
Also finishing fourth were Maggie Shields of Silver Creek in the 800 and Megan Brooks of Charlestown in the shot put.
