After trailing 7-0 at the half, Charlestown rode senior running back Darren Taylor to a 28-14 Mid-Southern Conference victory on Friday.
Taylor finished with a game-high 89 yards on 19 carries.
Early in the third quarter, Taylor gave the Pirates their first lead with 9:12 left when he scored from two yards out then ran in the coversion for an 8-7 Pirate lead.
After a 5-yard Matt Myers touchdown run made it 14-7, Taylor scored his second touchdown — also five yards — on the final play of the third quarter to give Charlestown a 20-7 lead after three quarters.
Two minutes later, Taylor scored for the third time on another 5-yard run to put the game away at 28-7 with 10:06 remaining.
Myers and freshman Antonyo Gaddie each ran for 69 yards on 10 carries. For the game, Charlestown had 245 yards on the ground and 60 through the air. Tristan Chester completed three of his eight passes for 60 yards and ran for another 12. Eli Daniel caught two of the passes for 27 yards, while Alex Smith caught one for 33.
The Pirate defense held the Cougars to 131 total yards and North Harrison quarterback Jack Phelps to 0 of 7 passing. Phelps did have a 1-yard TD plunge to get the Cougars on the board in the second quarter. Brandon Craig, who had a 48-yard touchdown run late in the game, led the Cougars with 63 yards on the ground.
