TUESDAY HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Magallanes, Borden boys claim New Washington Invitational

Garringer’s hat trick helps Floyd Central down Jeff

NEW WASHINGTON — Behind Julien Magallanes and Gavin Tipker’s 1-2 finish, the Borden Braves won the New Washington Invitational on Tuesday. Magallanes, who ran away from the pack, finished with a time of 16:27. Gavin Tipker ran a solid 17:25, not too far behind was brother George Tipker, who ran a 17:36, and Nathen Magallenes, who finished with a time of 18:04.

The Braves had four finish in the top 10, which helped them to score 29 points.

Borden coach Liz Carmony was pleased with her team’s overall performace, stating, “We had a decent race today and hope to continue to see improvment from our fifth runner.”

Will Little was the fifth runner on Tuesday. He finished 14th with a time of 18:36, just missing the top 10. Andy Stonecipher (18:46) and Brian McGee (19:35) rounded out Borden’s solid performance.

The Braves will be back in action on Thursday at the Eastern Invitational.
