H.S. GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Braves knocked off Eastern, 48-40

Ruedinger scores 21 in Brave victory


BORDEN — Borden stayed unbeaten and handed rival Eastern its first defeated, 48-40 on Friday.

“They were  2-0 and they have a decent team,” Borden coach Terry Rademacher said of the Musketeers. It was a real defensive battle and both teams got after it pretty hard. We got enough plays to win.”

The Braves essentially won the game at the foul line. After trailing 11-5 after one quarter and 16-13 at the half, Borden took the lead with a 14-7 third-quarter advantage.

In the fourth, Borden went 13 for 14 from the line and made 20 of their 22 attempts for the contest.

“We did a good job playing with the lead in the fourth quarter,” Rademacher said.  

For the second straight game, Natalie Ruedinger led Borden in scoring. She went 11 for 12 from the charity stripe and finished with 21 points. Carson Casey added 10, Abby Ellis eight and Kristen Nestor six for the Braves.

Brooke Rodewig and Rachel Hamilton led Eastern with 10 points apiece.

The Musketeers are back in action tonight when they host Providence, which also lost its first game on Friday, 42-39 to New Albany.

Borden has more than a week off before traveling to Christian Academy next Saturday.
