Residents band to help Heather Price, family

On Jan. 2, 2008, Tim Vissing was involved in a terrible accident when a car driven by Heather Price turned into his path. He was unable to avoid a collision.

With Tim’s quick maneuvering of a truck carrying 4,000 gallons of fuel, and numerous prayers from friends, family, and neighbors of Tim and Heather, Heather miraculously survived. Tim was not physically injured , but his heart aches terribly for Heather and her family.

Heather is a beautiful 18-year-old, a senior at Lanesville High School. Unfortunately, the accident has kept her from enjoying the last few months of her senior year and turned her family’s life upside down. They spent countless hours by her side at the hospital which kept them from their jobs and other responsibilities.

Heather’s recovery is far from over. She spent over two months at University Hospital after suffering a severe head injury. Heather is currently relearning tasks that we take for granted: walking, talking, eating, etc. at Frazier Rehab and the family’s medical bills are mounting.

Tim and I, along with our sons, Nick and Jake, want to help Heather and her family. We are sponsoring an event in her honor and hope you can join us for a “Night at the Races” with horse racing, music, and fun, at 7 p.m., Saturday, May 17, in Walpole Hall at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1830 East Eighth St., Jeffersonville.

Admission will be $5. To purchase and jockey a horse, the cost is $35 with free admission to the event. Individuals or groups can also sponsor a horse or reserve a table by contacting us at 283-1924.

If you are unable to attend, you may send a donation to Steve and Sheila Price, c/o Farmer’s State Bank, 7340 Main NE, Lanesville, 47136.

— Tim & Amy Vissing

Farr: Columnist’s example flawed

The Rev. Mary H. Wendelin’s May 03, 2008, column, “Born of the spirit,” was based on the Nicodemus story in John 3:1-17. Dr. Bart D. Ehrman, on page 222 of his book, “The New Testament,” states that this story fails all three tests of historicity: independent attestation, dissimilarity and contextual credibility.

The “born again” misunderstanding between Jesus and Nicodemus is based on the Greek writing of the gospel of John in which the Greek word for “from above” also means “again.” However, Jesus spoke Aramaic in which the word for “from above” does not mean “again.” This is an example of a violation of contextual credibility.

Prosser students add beauty

The Friends of Fairview cemetery would like to thank Paul Bush, Brent Romig and Garrett Blackman. These three young men are students at Prosser Vocational School in the horticulture program. They came to the cemetery and planted two big urns with flowers grown by the Prosser students.

We are very grateful for their help in making the cemetery look nice for Mother's Day.

— Lee Gohmann, New Albany
