Are turn signals out of style?
I have noticed that no one uses their turn signals anymore.
I have worked for local car dealerships for the past eight years and not once have we ordered or sold a new or used car that did not come with turn signals. Turn signals are not an option but a stock item that comes on all vehicles just like seatbelts. You can order a car with leather interior but you can not order one with out turn signals. This must tell you something.
Just in case anyone has forgotten what they are, it makes a clicking noise and lets other motorist know which way you are turning. People need to use them and be courtous to other drivers. They will also prevent accidents.
Please pass this on to your family and friends so that they can be safe.

Reader: Experience counts
I am writing in response to an Opinions column in the Sunday, June 15 edition, titled, “How important is experience in this presidential election?”
It was written by a Mr. Kasem Kasem, and guess who he is supporting, and who has practically no experience — Mr. Barack Obama — surprise.
I wonder if Mr. Kasem would discount the experience the next time he needed surgery, or was on trial for his life. A U.S. President makes life and death decisions on almost a daily basis and his decisions affect, not just one person, but all of us.
Mr. Kasem, an immigrant, obviously of Middle Eastern descent, and obviously doing well in this country (a professor of chemistry at Indiana University, Kokomo) accuses those of us who disagree with him and do not support Mr. Obama of prejudice. Mr. Kasem’s own prejudice shows through when he claims that greedy capitalism is always behind every energy crisis.
Was he in this country in the 1970s under the Carter Administration? Is greedy capitalism the reason Democratic congresses have blocked U.S. oil companies from domestic drilling for the last 30 years?
Mr. Kasem then goes on to claim that “creative socialist approaches” are behind every true solution.
Are you getting the picture here?
His entire column reveals his prejudice against this country while he and his enjoy this country’s benefits and freedoms.
I would agree with Mr. Kasem on one issue. Experience alone is not enough, good sound judgment is even more important, but a combination of both is far superior to either.
Let’s take a look at Mr. Obama’s record of his judgment:
1. He claims as his friend, spiritual leader, and mentor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. We all know what he is by his own words.
2. He joined that hate-filled congregation and stayed there for 20 years.
3. He had his two daughters baptized and submerged in Rev. Wright’s hate until political expediency forced his leaving.
4. He admits a close relationship with a known U.S. terrorist, William Aires.
5. He had a relationship with a known crooked financier, Mr. Tony Rezko.
I am sure other revelations will surface, as if this is not enough, but Mr. Kasem still supports Mr. Obama and accuses anyone who does not of being racist. It is not a case of skin color, Mr. Kasem, it is an issue of gray matter, and your obvious lack of it, or your predisposed aim to turn this country into another socialist regime.

Check out GCCS video at local libraries
We’ve all heard “Be careful what you wish for.” Well, today, I’m fulfilling the wish of some present and past Greater Clark School Board members.
Their wish was that the public could be more informed with what is going on with the school board. I have been videotaping meetings for some of the people running for school board, and people I know who could not attend, so, I could copy the videos and give them out.
Then I had a thought: Why not make some copies for the libraries for the public to see what’s going on at the school board meetings and let the public judge for itself how things are going?
Now, you can view each month’s board meeting, a few days after it has taken place, by checking out the DVD at the main branch of the Jeffersonville Township Public Library and the Charlestown-Clark County Public Library, but please return it for others to check out.
Here’s another idea: Why doesn’t the board put the video on it’s Web site, so people can view it there? That would be so much easier.
Check the videos out, then, and try to check out the actual meetings at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month at the Administration building.

Reader: Shooter should be in custody
An open letter to the Clark County Prosecuter: I'm upset that Ms. Yalanda Parrish was allowed to shoot someone in broad daylight, near my home, with the flimsiest of excuses, and not be incarcerated while your office and the police sort things out.
If I shot someone point blank in the chest, I think I would expect to be taken into custody until more of the facts were known. It's good to know that I'll be allowed to roam free instead. Whew, that's a load off my mind.
Are we citizens all empowered to pack heat and use deadly force to resolve our traffic disputes now?
I think you should hold a press conference declaring open season on impolite motorists. I understand that Ms. Parrish threatened a different motorist with the use of deadly force not so long ago. I know you're going to find this hard to believe, but I have never found it necessary to shoot anyone, or threaten to shoot anyone while driving my vehicle.
What is it about Ms. Parrish that seems to attract these kinds of events? Why aren't you keeping her off the streets so that the rest of us don't have to dodge her bullets?
I hope that at a minimum you'll revoke her carry permit.

Reader no fan of Hill’s policies
I wish Baron Hill would be a little more honest with voters. He has no real interest in reducing U.S. dependency on foreign oil.
The U.S. has billions, if not trillions of barrels of oil and cubic feet of natural gas – but it is off limits to exploration. Hill and his colleagues argue, among other things, that drilling, for example in Anwar, would not produce any gas for five to seven or more years. Hill should recall that it is because of his votes in 2001 and 2003 (yes, that is five to seven years ago) that we do not have Anwar oil today (reference for 2001 is Roll Call 317 and Roll Call 320 and 2003 is Roll Call 135 and Roll Call 145.)
Mr. Hill, be a responsible legislator and do what at least two-thirds of all American’s are demanding – allow safe exploration in the U.S. now.
