Reader upset with GCCS school board
I don’t live in Clark County anymore, but I keep up via this paper’s Web site — newsandtribune.com.
I have some old friends that teach in the GCCS system and the board’s actions are confusing. The teachers accepted the board’s plan in good faith and the board went back on its word. It appears the board is trying to extort further concessions from their teachers.
Hasn’t the board seen Gov. Mitch Daniel’s ad claiming to have increased funding to schools for four years in a row? What is the board doing with all this money?
It is a sad day. Being a teacher is one — if not the most important profession — we have and we, taxpayers and school boards, treat them like babysitters.
Shame on you, Hoosiers!

Parade committee offers thanks
We would like to take this time to publicly acknowledge and to thank the following city agencies, companies and individuals for their support for the “Jeffersonville Celebrating Freedom,” Fourth of July parade:
The City of Jeffersonville, Jeffersonville Police Department, Jeffersonville Fire Department, Jeffersonville Parks and Recreation Department, Jeffersonville Street Department, Franklin Commons Neighborhood Association, Remnant Trust/Carnegie Library, Sampan, Voluforms, At Ease IDs — Rick Lovan, Bales Motor Company, Carriage Ford, Menu on the River, Office Supply, Jeffersonville Main Street Association, and Cathie Wheat — Semonin Realtors.
And a very special thank you to “A Taste of Jeffersonville” for providing funding for this year’s event. Because of their contributions and support, the parade this year was the largest and most successful one we have had.
Also, thanks to all the people in the community who attended and supported this year’s parade.
See you next year on the Fourth of July

She’s mad at ISP
I just want to express my complete outrage at local law enforcement, specifically the Indiana State Police.
My husband was pulled over by ISP this morning on his way to work for speeding. Who doesn’t in rush hour traffic?
I do not condone speeding, but what concerns me the most is that there were at least four other officers on the stretch of Interstate this morning pulling over cars, most of which I am sure are all law-abiding citizens on their way to work.
Is not pulling over cars on the shoulder over the interstate in rush hour traffic pose some sort of traffic hazard?
I also saw a stalled semi-driver on the side of the road attempting to fix his vehicle with no police involvement. I guess they figure he can fend for himself, they’re too busy pulling over speeders.
Meanwhile, in New Albany last night on Aebersold Drive, there was a crime spree. Multiple cars were broken into and had items stolen, windows broken. Where were the police then?
Not only was the officer that pulled him over this morning incredibly arrogant and rude, but he treated me to a lecture on "breaking the law" at 7:30 in the morning. Thank you, Barney Fife. I'm clearly a deranged criminal and needed that motivational speech.
Don't these officers have something better to do? Shouldn't they be out catching real criminals, i.e. busting meth labs, hunting down child molesters, catching domestic abusers? Or maybe better yet, helping to educate our children on how to be productive members of society?
But then again I guess if they did that they could not afford to be driving around in their brand new Mustangs, funded by taxpayers, of course, pulling over cars on the interstate for speeding.
