Reader: Let Dan Moore on ballot
On June 17, 2008, the Clark County Democratic committee members met in the Clark County Government Building to select our candidate for Circuit Court Judge.
We had two very capable candidates, Mr. Dan Moore and Mr. David Lewis, both local attorneys. Mr. Moore won the caucus by a large margin.
We feel that our candidate, Mr. Moore, should be on the ballot this fall and let the good people of Clark County decide who they want for their Circuit Court Judge.
Mr. Moore would be a great asset to our Democratic ticket and I know he will work very hard to ensure a Democratic victory in November.
I have been involved with several prior Democratic caucus since becoming a committee person. Mr. Dan Moore is one of the finest men I have ever had the privilege of working with and, in my opinion, it would be a terrible injustice if he is not on the ballot this fall.
It is my understanding that both county chairmen, Democrat and Republican, made mistakes filing their papers, so let’s make sure that the democratic process works and let both candidates run for judge and the one with the most votes wins the election. This is the only fair way to settle this matter, in my opinion.

Reader comes to defense of police
In response to Gigi Collier’s letter “She’s mad at ISP,” I can only state this is obviously an excellent example of why one should wait 24 hours before venting about something.
She mentions her “husband was pulled over by ISP this morning on his way to work for speeding.” So she must have written this letter before taking a moment to rationally consider what she was saying. I’d like to respond to a few of her statements, that I have quoted from her letter.
“Who doesn’t [speed] in rush hour traffic?” Many, many people, who leave for work with enough time to get there without speeding, which is why they’re not getting pulled over!
“There were at least four other officers on the stretch of Interstate this morning pulling over cars, most of which I am sure are all law-abiding citizens on their way to work.” No, they were not law-abiding citizens, for speed limits are set by law and obeying them makes one “law-abiding.” If someone is speeding, they are breaking the law!
“Is not pulling over cars on the shoulder over the interstate in rush hour traffic pose some sort of traffic hazard?” This situation is not hazardous, if drivers are going the speed limit, allowing suggested distances between vehicles and if drivers obey the Indiana law and pull into the far lane from the shoulder on which said pulled over vehicles sit.
"Meanwhile, in New Albany last night on Aebersold Drive there was a crime spree. Where were the police then?” May I remind readers that most likely Aebersold Drive in New Albany is not the ISP’s jurisdiction?
“Not only was the officer that pulled him over this morning incredibly arrogant and rude, but he treated me to a lecture on “breaking the law” at 7:30 in the morning.” I’m confused as to whether or not she was in the vehicle with her husband. If she had been and she berated the officer with all of her rants she has put in her letter, I would advise her to be thankful she was only given a lecture and not actually charged with disorderly conduct!
“Don’t these officers have something better to do? Shouldn’t they be out catching real criminals.....Or maybe better yet, helping to educate our children on how to be productive members of society?” The fact is that by stopping speeders, these officers are saving lives and demonstrating to our children that all laws must be obeyed. We cannot pick and choose the ones we want to obey. Explaining this concept to our children will, indeed, make them better citizens and productive members of society!
So I say, “Thank you!” to our ISP for their vigilance and excellence in patrolling our highways and making them safer for those of us who do obey the speed limits, even in rush hour.
