Reader thanks community for support

On Feb. 27, 2014, disaster struck when a fire took our house and many of our possessions, as well as a combined 100 years of history and memories between Jo Ann and I and our late spouses.

Jo Ann and I would like to thank all those that responded and offered help, however there are too many to mention here. Some brought food, some came to comfort, some sent cards, some brought money and some offered to sponsor a fundraiser.

Jo Ann and I are fortunate that we are well covered by insurance and have the financial means to move forward. We are keeping track of all cash contributions and will be donating those funds to the Clark County Red Cross and The Salvation Army, because both respond to local disasters. Jo and I have been long time volunteers and know there are victims that have no insurance and aren’t as lucky as Jo Ann and I.

The Clark County Red Cross will be holding its gala Aug. 21 to raise funds for local disaster victims. We are asking our friends that want to help to sent a check or donate a nice item for the silent auction to help those in need.

To answer some of the most asked questions: Yes we are rebuilding at the same location on Monroe Street in Charlestown, and yes although we lost many of our Christmas decorations, we will do our best to have our yard display.

Jo Ann and I will never forget the outpouring support from our friends and family in Spencer, Bullitt and Jefferson County, Ky., and Charlestown and Southern Indiana.

Thanks again and God bless.

— Harold [and Jo Ann] Goodlett, Charlestown
