The teachers association representing Greater Clark County Schools voted overwhelmingly Monday to accept an agreed-to contract with the school system.
The vote was: 117 for the contract and one person voting no, a member of the Greater Clark Education Association said. The contract now goes to the school board tonight for approval. It was tentatively accepted by leadership from both groups June 19.
Teachers have been without a contract for a year, and the new pact covers the prior 2007-08 school year. It includes a 2 percent pay raise, retroactive to last year and covers about 650 teachers.
The school system and the teachers union have not agreed on a contract for the coming school year. They will work under the 2007-08 contract — if approved by the school board — until a new agreement is reached.
“We did not reach an agreement for the 2008-09 school year, because we are filing an unfair labor practice claim with the federal government on the partially self-funded insurance,” said Nick Weise, president-elect and vice president of the association, for a previous article. “We felt that needed to be bargained at the table.”
