Illegal immigrant picked up in Clarksville on child molesting warrant

An illegal immigrant was arrested in Clarksville for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl in Scott County.

Indiana State Police troopers and detectives from the Sellersburg Post arrested Jesus M. Lopez on a traffic stop at 2 p.m. Wednesday after a warrant was issued for him in Scott County Circuit Court, according to an ISP press release.

Lopez, 20, of Austin, was wanted for child molesting, a class B felony. ISP began investigating two weeks ago after a molestation was reported to officers at the post. The warrant was issued early Wednesday.

Lopez is being held in the Scott County Jail awaiting his first court appearance. He faces six to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The investigation is continuing.
