Palin coming to Jeffersonville ...

Tickets available at local Republican headquarters

Vice-presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin will be in Jeffersonville on Wednesday evening as each campaign begins to make its closing arguments.

“We were already energized, but this just took it to a whole new level,” said David Buskill, chairman of the Clark County Republican Party.

Buskill said he asked for Palin to come to Clark County several weeks ago, but he thought it was a long shot until Indiana became a “battleground state.”

Indiana has become a key state in the presidential election as polls show a close race between Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., in the state. Indiana, which has 11 electoral votes, has not voted for a Democrat for president since 1964.

Palin, Alaska’s governor, has been to Fort Wayne and Noblesville in recent days. Buskill believes Clark County is an area where McCain and Palin can pick up more votes before the Nov. 4 election.

“This is the right area,” Buskill said. “It’s a conservative area with a lot of conservative Democrats who will easily swing toward McCain once they hear Gov. Palin’s message.”

Palin will appear with guest country singer Hank Williams Jr., at 6:30 p.m. at Capstone Realty Inc.’s warehouse, 100 River Ridge Circle. Doors open at 4:30 for the program and tickets are available at county GOP headquarters in Clark, Floyd and other counties. The building can hold more than 35,000 people for the event.

Ticket requests can be made by visiting johnmccain.com and picked up at party headquarters, but tickets are not guaranteed.
