Windsor bar opens tonight in New Albany

Manager gives thanks to Mayor England, others

The Windsor Bar and Lounge celebrates its opening tonight with drink specials and a free appetizer buffet.

The bar is an extension of Windsor Restaurant & Garden, located in the former New Albany Inn building at 148 E. Market St.

Bar Manager Issac Fox said the 700-square-foot lounge was the idea of Windsor Co-owner Kasey Swank. It will seat between 30 to 40 guests. Fox also noted that liquor, wine and beer will be available on the restaurant side of Windsor, too.

“It will be a fully-stocked bar. Definitely the best wine list and best liquor selection on this side of the river,” Fox said.

Fox has worked in the bar and restaurant business for several years, including stints with Speakeasy and Bistro New Albany.

The bar will feature 10 craft and microbrewed beers, including local selections from New Albanian Brewing Co. Fox said they will rotate a different beer in each month for variety.

There will also be live jazz music each weekend with the lounge closing around 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Fox said the bar may stay open longer depending on how well business goes.

The lounge will open at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Its interior will consist of leather couches, tables and flat-screen TVs.

“We wanted to go with a casual yet classy bar and lounge atmosphere,” Fox said.

The grand opening is sponsored by Develop New Albany and Fox said One Southern Indiana and Mayor Doug England were helpful in getting the lounge started.

“Major thanks to all of them,” Fox said.

He said England helped Windsor secure a needed liquor license from the state.

Along with the appetizers and drink specials, there will be live music by Kevin Reese at the grand opening. Everyone who purchases a bottle of wine will receive a free cheese tray.
