JEFFERSONVILLE — Several plans were presented for consideration, but no option has been chosen to address upgrades to the pump stations at Cane Run and Mill Creek.
John Herriford, engineer with Strand Associates Inc., provided an update to the Jeffersonville-Clarksville Flood Control District’s ongoing attempts to solidify a design to rehabilitate the outdated pump stations.
Strand Associates has been completing a watershed study that will help to determine final plans for replacing or upgrading those pump stations.
The district has previously agreed to issue bonds for an amount of up to $7.5 million at an August meeting. However, the bond has yet to receive its approval from the Jeffersonville City Council.
As Herriford presented the options to the flood control district, he said there are two hurdles the draft report will have to clear before the board is ready to make a decision. The first is that a presentation is being developed on the options available to the board, and the second is an estimate of the costs has yet to be solidified.
Part of the issue in not having a more definitive cost is that Herriford said the flood control district has up to nine options to choose from and each has a different scenario of lowering a pump station, coupled with various pump capacity.
“I would recommend...instead of costing out all of those, maybe filter those nine scenarios down to a few and develop ones that are most appropriate and ones that are the most favorable to the district at this time,” Herriford said.
But it is believed that some of the scenarios could already be thrown out as unpractical.
“You’ve got probably two, maybe three, scenarios in there I think that would be of any value,” said Clevidence, director of engineering and stormwater operations for Clarksville.
