Band holding yard sale
The Floyd Central High School Band will sponsor a yard sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Republic Bank, 4571 Duffy Road, Floyds Knobs, next to Highlander Point Shopping Center.
Proceeds benefit the Floyd Central High School Band.
Author to sign books for benefit
New Albany’s Rebecca Heishman will sign copies of her book “The Misadventures of Millie” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Quills Coffee, 137 E. Market St., New Albany.
The cost of the book is $10 and all proceeds will go to the Animal Adoption Network Inc.
St. Marks hosting auditions
St. Marks United Church of Christ will hold auditions for its upcoming play, “Henry Bain’s New Albany” about New Albany’s bicentennial.
Auditions will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the church, 222 E. Spring St., New Albany.
The play is written by Larry Muhammad and directed by J.R. Stuart. Roles that need to be filled include seven black characters and three white characters. Actors are asked to bring a resume and headshot to the auditions.

Reunion picnic coming Saturday
Jefferson Gardens Reunion Day picnic with the theme “For the Good Times” will be from 4 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Herman Collier Park at the corner of Fiske Avenue and Wabash Avenue, New Albany.
Bring your family, friends, lawn chairs and food. A DJ will provide music.
NAHS class of 1948 to meet
The New Albany High School class of 1948 will celebrate its 65th reunion at the Holiday Inn Lakeview in Clarksville on Friday, Aug. 16. Registration is at 11 a.m. and the buffet will be served at 11:30 a.m.

Brain injury group to meet
The August meeting of the Southern Indiana Traumatic Brain Injury Foundation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the Education Conference Room at Southern Indiana Rehab Hospital, 3104 Blackiston Blvd., New Albany.

Controlled hunt applications available
Applications are available online for Hoosiers wanting to participate in special deer reduction hunts at designated Indiana state parks this fall, including at Charlestown State Park
The first round of state park deer reduction hunting will be Nov. 18 and 19. The second round will be Dec. 2 and 3.
State park deer reductions help maintain and restore unique and valuable ecosystems damaged by white-tailed deer. The designated parks are closed to the general public on hunting days.
Applications are available at IndianaOutdoor.IN.gov. The application deadline is Aug. 25.

Charlestown and Spring Mill will hold hunts with firearms; Clifty Falls will hold a hunt using archery.
Servant award nominations accepted
Leadership Southern Indiana has opened nominations for the George Lane Servant Leader Award that will be presented at the annual meeting at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Sheraton Hotel in Jeffersonville.
Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 16. To nominate an LSI alumni, you must be a member of the organization. Chase Bank is this year’s award sponsor.

Church hosting concert
Eastern Heights Baptist Church, 4202 Helen Road, Jeffersonville, will sponsor David Meece in concert at 7 p.m., Aug. 17, at the church. The concert is free. A love offering will be received.
He was trained as a classical pianist, but grew up listening to top 40 radio. The result is evident on each of his recordings. Fans range from pre-teens to retirees, with musical tastes that vary from classical to pop.
