Realtors hosting annual gala

The Southern Indiana Relators Association is sponsoring a 2013 Leadership Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at The Showroom, Horseshoe Southern Indiana, 11999 Casino Center Drive SE, Elizabeth.

SIRA will install its 2013 Leadership Team at its annual inaugural gala. National motivational speaker, entrepreneur, coach, and author Linda McKissack will deliver the keynote address.

Realtor Tonja Aaron-Wells will be installed as the 2013 board chair. The event’s guest list includes regional business leaders, public officials and Realtors and is open to the public. Wreath-making on tap

The Sunnyside Master Gardener annual wreath-making class will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Dec. 1, at the Floyd County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2818 Green Valley Road, New Albany. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Cut-off time for starting new wreaths is noon.

Master your talents at the wreath-making class with the assistance of the Sunnyside Master Gardeners and the large variety of fresh holiday greenery, cones, berries and dried materials that come from their own landscapes and gardens. Be sure to bring your clippers and gloves.

Class size is limited to 125 participants. First come, first serve. $25 with new wreath form (provided) or $20 with wreath form from prior years’ class (Fee includes ribbon).

Holiday bazaar set at Legion

There will be a holiday bazaar at American Legion Post 204, 412 N. New Albany St., Sellersburg, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1


FCHS students hosting bazaar

The Floyd Central Student Renaissance will be holding its annual Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at Floyd Central High School, 6575 Old Vincennes Road, Floyds Knobs.

There will be shopping, food, and visits with Santa. Anyone interested in renting booth space for $30 should contact Floyd Central’s front office or send a request to

Kids basketball league forming

St. Mary of the Knobs is once again hosting a basketball league for kids ages 3 through fourth grade at the Geis Activity Center in Floyds Knobs. Games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays from Jan. 5 through Feb. 10.

The league is open to anyone in the community. In person registration dates are Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon and Sunday, Dec. 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the SMK Geis Activity Center. Cost is $50 per child. Registration is also available online at



Ind. 111 to close Monday

The Indiana Department of Transportation advises motorists that Ind. 111 will close from 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, to allow Norfolk Southern crews to rebuild the crossing surface near Corydon Pike. Ind. 111 will be closed between 10th and Jackson streets.

A detour will take westbound Ind. 111 traffic to west 10th Street, west on Floyd Street, north on Jackson Street, and back to Ind. 111. Eastbound traffic will travel south on Jackson Street, east on Floyd Street, and back to Ind. 111.

Drivers can learn the locations of highway work zones ahead of time by visiting or by calling 1-800-261-ROAD (7623).

Church hosting bazaar Saturday

Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, 2020 Maryland Ave., New Albany, will hold its annual holiday bazaar will be from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, at the church.

The bazaar will feature food, more than 20 vendors, door prizes and a silent auction. Sales also will begin for the first church cookbook, of which 100 books have been presold. This book features 275 recipes and lots of other goodies and will cost $12 through Dec. 1. These recipes are from Galatian members, friends and family.


Brunch with Santa, bazaar upcoming

Sacred Heart School, 1842 E. Eighth St., Jeffersonville,  will be hosting a brunch with St. Nick from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Walpole Hall.

Cost for adults is $7 each, children 3-10 are $5 each, and children 2 and under are free for all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage by Chris Cakes.

The Christmas bazaar will be open from noon to 3 p.m. and will feature local vendors and crafts people who will offer their various items for sale, including Lia Sophia jewelry, Thirty-One bags, Tastefully Simple, Moxie Children’s Clothing, and other local homemade arts and baked goods.

Santa Claus will be on hand to have his picture taken with the children and there will be Christmas crafts and other fun items will be given away as door prizes.
