Floyd Knobs woman arrested for drugs; $100K bond set

Meth substances found in vehicle and home near elementary school

FLOYDS KNOBS — A Floyds Knobs woman is in jail after police say she refused to comply after a traffic stop, which led them to find methamphetamine pipes in her car and suspected meth labs in her home.

Stephanie N. Stepro, 28, of Scottsville Road, was seen driving by Floyd County Sheriff’s Department officer Christopher Brady, who said Stepro was familiar to him, and that he knew her to be driving on a suspended license. Officer Sarah James was also present, and a traffic stop was made at State Street and Daisy Lane.

After Stepro was removed from her vehicle and taken to Floyd County Jail, an inventory search was conducted in the vehicle before it was towed away. During the inventory check, Brady said four methamphetamine pipes were located, two of which tested positive for methamphetamine.

Officers then opened the hood of the vehicle and located a package wrapped in electrical tape that contained 26 grams of a red, powdery substance believed to be pseudoephedrine. Brady said the substance has not yet been determined as the suspected drug, but a test will be conducted at a later time.

Brady said he then obtained a warrant to search Stepro’s home, which he said is located across the street from Floyds Knobs Elementary School. While in the home, Brady and an Indiana State Police trooper found several methamphetamine precursors and, “what appeared to be remains of previously active meth labs,” Brady said.

Stepro was preliminarily charged with possession of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, a class B felony; illegal drug lab, a class D felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a class D felony; and driving while suspended with a prior conviction, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement, all class A misdemeanors.

Stepro appeared in Floyd County Circuit Court on Thursday and a $100,000 court-cash bond was set. She is scheduled to return to the court for an initial hearing April 2.
